Summary:
For this assignment, you will write a 2-4 page project proposal. Your project proposal should have the following sections that addresses what is described below:
  • Title: It's a title.
  • Abstract: For this section, write a one-paragraph summary of five (5) sentences that addresses the following:
    • Current Situation: What is the current state of the world that relates to what you are doing in your project? (1 sentence)
    • Problem Statement: What is the specific problem that you are trying to solve?
    • Prior Work: What already exists in the world or has already been done that does not suitably solve the problem you are exploring? (1 sentence)
    • Proposed Solution: What is the approach that you propose for solving this problem? (1 sentence)
    • Expected Contributions: What benefits do you speculate will be derived from your proposed solution? (1 sentence)
  • Motivation: For this section, write a half-page to one-page section that provides context to the reader of what you are doing for the project. Be sure that you address the following points:
    • Introduction: Introduce the domain area that your project explores.
    • Problem: Describe the problem you are trying to solve.
    • Background: Provide any background information necessary to understand the problem.
    • Understandable: Any intelligent person should be able to understand and be motivated by the problem you are exploring.
  • Prior Work: For this section, write a half-page to one-page section that gives an executive summary of the literature that relates to you work. You are not limited to only related systems, but are also allowed to summarize supporting knowledge and relevant techniques that can benefit your project. Be sure that this section addresses the following points:
    • Novelty: Describe how your work differs from related work.
    • Foundation: Does the prior work appropriately set the stage for your project?
    • Impact: Does it tell a story?
  • Proposed Solution: For this section, write a half-page to one-page section that describes what you propose to directly address the motivation. That is, what do you propose to solve, and what do you plan to build and implement as your solution. Be sure that this section addresses the following points:
    • Goal: What are you trying to solve?
    • Solution: What is your proposed solution?
    • Details: What does your proposed solution do?
    • Plan: How do you plan to implement your proposed solution?
  • Budget Needs: For this section, write a half-page to one-page section that lists and describes what components you need for your project. That is, provide a list of what equipment you may need to accomplish the aims of your project. For each item, write a paragraph that addresses the following points:
    • Item: Provide a description of that item.
    • Purpose: Provide a justification for that item in your project.
    • Price: How much does it cost at market value?
    • Vendor: Who sells it and where can you purchase it?
